Upcoming Elections in Buenos Aires

In the elections on May 18 in the Porteño Legislature, 30 seats will be renewed, with Peronism and La Libertad Avanza (LLA) being the groups that will put the most representatives at stake. The PRO, on the other hand, will only risk three seats, which could translate to few changes in the Legislature if current polls hold.

Among the main candidates seeking re-election are Silvia Lospennato for the PRO, Leandro Santoro for Peronism, and presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni for LLA. Even if the PRO receives 20 percent of the votes, they would only be risking three of the six seats to be renewed, with the other two belonging to the Civic Coalition and Volvamos Buenos Aires, led by Horacio Rodríguez Larreta.

Currently, of the outgoing deputies in the Porteño Government, only eight belong to the ruling party, and only one of them will run for re-election, Dario Nieto. If the PRO secures six seats, they would add to the Macrismo legislators forming a block of 11 members under the leadership of Jorge Macri.

In the electoral scenario, the PRO competes for the same electorate as Rodríguez Larreta, who is running for legislator alongside other strong candidates in the party, such as Guadalupe Tagliaferri and Emanuel Ferrario. Meanwhile, LLA risks 80 percent of its seats and its leader, Manuel Adorni, faces the challenge of obtaining six seats, competing with libertarian Ramiro Marra, expelled from LLA and current candidate for UCEDE.

Another relevant group in these elections is UxP, which presents "Ahora Buenos Aires" led by Leandro Santoro. With 18 seats at stake, Santoro aims to maintain the first minority with the help of other candidates such as Claudia Negri, Federico Mochi, and Andrea Mariana González. The Civic Coalition, for its part, seeks to maintain its representation with Paula Olivetto at the forefront and eventual support from Fernando Sánchez and Maria Pace Wells.

As for the Left Front, they are nominating Vanina Biasse, Luca Bonfante, and Celeste Fierro, while the MID presents Ricardo Caruso Lombardi, who could join the MID block if he manages to obtain 3 percent of the votes. Meanwhile, the UCR-Evolución, led by Martín Lousteau, aims to renew its 8 seats with candidates such as Lucille Levy, Lucio Lapeña, and María Inés Parry.
